Instagram Improves In-App Shopping

With Instagram getting 50 times the engagement that Facebook does and 500 million users worldwide per month there are a number of reasons why this platform powerhouse should be added to your social strategy.

After launching business accounts a short time ago, Instagram has made yet another big change that will impact their ads in a huge way.

Much to the excitement of online businesses and retailers, Instagram has streamlined its shopping experience to make it easier for customers to discover and purchase products in their feeds.

The new shopping experience includes:

1) A tap-to-view button on the bottom left of posts, which reveals up to five product tags in a photo;

2) When clicked, these tags open up a product-details-view with more information; and

3) A “shop now” button appears, which bounces users out of Instagram over to a business’ website where products can be purchased.

Currently, only 20 major brands, including Kate Spade, Macy’s and Abercrombie, have access to make these shopping-optimized posts. No news yet on when these features will be rolled out to all business users.

So, as for the rest of us, we’ll have to wait on bated breathe to take advantage of these game-changing enhancements.
